After being late and canceling several concert dates claiming vocal issues for her “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, 25th Anniversary Tour,” in 2023, Lauryn Hill is blaming the media for slow ticket sales leading to the cancellation of her 2024 tour. Hill stated: “Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows,” Hill wrote. “Regrettably, some media outlets’ penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour. She continued, “The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal.”
Instead of assuming responsibility for the fact that her inability to perform well with her vocal issues is the problem, she chooses to place the blame elsewhere. Ms. Hill seems to be in a world all her own, because she believes she’s dong her fans a favor by gracing them with her presence. And them just getting a chance to watch her do whatever she pleases with song arrangements and musically whatever pleases her first, should be enough. Citing a review from an Oakland show last year written by journalist Emma Silvers from the Chronicle she commented; “Hill has been criticized for live arrangements that bear little resemblance to the record versions, but she didn’t veer too far off course here. Watching her tease out rhythms and melodies, belting a cappella on occasion, one got the impression she was simply doing what was necessary, after 25 years, to make this all interesting for her.”
After showing up late for several concerts last year before they finally shut the tour down, Hill had the nerve to tell a Los Angeles crowd, “You’re saying ‘She’s late. She’s late a lot.’ Yo, y’all lucky I make it on this … stage every night.”
I think it’s time that Lauryn Hill realizes that any problems that she is experiencing with her fan’s waning interest in her, is largely due to her perception of how great she is…
