Dr. Kellyann:
Did you know that many hormones are associated with sleep and your circadian rhythm? One in particular is ghrelin, otherwise known as your hunger hormone.
An empty stomach alerts your body to release the hormone ghrelin. This release of ghrelin then alerts your brain to find food because you’re hungry.
Ever notice that after a night of bad sleep you tend to eat more or crave more carbohydrates? It’s not in your head. Research shows that sleep deprivation can cause ghrelin levels to spike and increase carbohydrate cravings.
So if you’re feeling extra sleepy in the morning, instead of grabbing a double dose of caffeine or a high carbohydrate breakfast to give you an additional boost of energy, try a “Fat Bomb!”
Fat bombs are little low-carb, high-fat treats that became popular from people on the keto diet… they can be either sweet or savory—that you can eat as a replacement meal or a fun snack. They’re loaded with fats that curb your appetite and rev up your metabolism. Many people report that fat bombs give them an extra boost of energy for a workout; and help them fight cravings for hours—plus they make your taste buds happy!
