New York Beats California As Vegan Obsessed State

We’re surprised that Californians didn’t come in first place for Vegan obsessed state.

The vegan foodies at Easy Vegan Recipes examined search volume data for vegan-related phrases in each US state per 100k residents. The search volumes of the following terms were analyzed over the past 12 months; ‘vegan,’ ‘vegan restaurant,’ ‘vegan substitutes,’ ‘vegan recipes,’ and ‘vegan desserts.’

The research revealed that New York is the state most interested in veganism, with 594.64 vegan-related searches per 100k population. The most popular search amongst New Yorkers was ‘vegan’, with 82,250 estimated online searches made per month. Following this was 27,600 searches for ‘vegan restaurant’[s], and ‘vegan desserts’ with 3,808.3 monthly searches. While New York has an abundance of vegan restaurants and bakeries to choose from, there were also an estimated 3,316.7 searches for ‘vegan recipes’ each month.

In second place is Oregon, with 593.89 vegan-related searches per 100k residents. An estimated 6,525 searches were made for a ‘vegan restaurant’ each month in Oregon, while 740.8 ‘vegan recipes’ were searched for each month.

Hawaii is the third most vegan-obsessed state with 549.98 searches per 100k population. There were an estimated 2,358.3 online searches for vegan restaurants each month in Hawaii. Hawaii has a great selection of vegan-friendly restaurants to choose from, particularly in Honolulu.

California ranks in fourth place, with 414.13 searches per 100k population.  Californians topped the searches for almost every vegan-related term in the study, including ‘vegan restaurant’[s], with an estimated average 48,750 online searches per month and a massive 100,250 searches for ‘vegan.’ California boasts an enormous 7,902 vegan restaurants, with the city of Los Angeles containing the highest number.

Washington ranks in fifth place with 406.53 searches per 100k population.  Washington state was found to have a higher number of online searches for vegan restaurants than Oregon or Hawaii, with 9333.3. The city of Seattle alone boasts 324 vegan-friendly restaurants.
