CDC Orders Indoor Mask Mandate For Fully Vaccinated Individuals

In May, the CDC (The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) announced that fully vaccinated individuals did not need to wear masks in most settings. Three months later, the CDC is rolling back this allowance.

Whether you're vaccinated or not, Americans should wear masks indoors in areas of high COVID-19 transmission, according to the new guidance.

This new mask mandate comes in light of the rise in cases connected to the Delta variant.

"The delta variant is showing every day its willingness to outsmart us and be an opportunist," CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said in a briefing Tuesday. "In rare occasions, some vaccinated people infected with the delta variant after vaccination may be contagious and spread the virus to others. … This new science is worrisome and unfortunately warrants an update to our recommendations."
