LACMA & La Brea Tarpits Reopen To The Public

After more than a year of mandated closure as a result of COVID-19, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is open again, following the guidelines provided by L.A. County for museums. https://www.lacma.org/

Dr. Lori Bettison-Varga, President and Director of the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County, announced the Natural History Museum (NHM) in Exposition Park reopened to the public on April 1, 2021 and La Brea Tar Pits in Hancock Park will reopen on April 8, 2021, with new health and safety protocols in place. The William S. Hart Museum in Newhall remains closed at this time. https://nhmlac.org/

NHM and La Brea Tar Pits will open gradually, Thursdays through Sundays, and will expand the days over the coming months. The 2021 Butterfly Pavilion season will be open through September 6, 2021. Tickets for the Butterfly Pavilion will remain free for members and will be $6 for non-members. The Spider Pavilion season will open later in Fall 2021.

NHM will debut the gallery presentation of two exhibitions when the museum opens its doors: Rise Up L.A.: A Century of Votes for Women and Spiky, Hairy, Shiny: Insects of LA

To provide a safe environment for visitors and staff, LACMA has implemented new health and safety protocols and procedures in accordance with the guidelines provided by the L.A. County Department of Public Health. The new health and safety protocols include limited capacity (25% in red tier as required by the State), advance timed-entry online ticketing, required face mask wearing, mandatory online health screening and temperature check, a touchless visitor experience (including a new touchless check-in system and new sensor-based facility fixtures), enhanced and more frequent cleaning and sanitizing protocols, one-way paths through galleries, physical distancing cues and labels, new gallery guidelines to reduce gathering, hand sanitizing stations, and health and safety protocols signage throughout campus.

All in-person events, such as art classes and activities, talks, concerts, film screenings, and group tours have been suspended.

The LACMA Store and LACMA Café airstream will also be open and follow the guidelines provided for retail and restaurants by the L.A. County Department of Public Health. Ray’s & Stark Bar and Coffee + Milk (C+M) will reopen on April 7.

In accordance with L.A. County and City guidelines, all in-person public programs, including tours, talks, panels, art classes and workshops, film, concerts, and more, will be suspended and continue to take place online until further notice.

LACMA’s hours will remain the same: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday (11 am–5 pm), Friday (11 am–8 pm), Saturday–Sunday (10 am–7 pm); the museum is closed on Wednesdays. Free admission will continue to be available to L.A. County residents after 3 pm on weekdays.
