To support those on the front lines of the fight against coronavirus, Nissan is using 3D printers to print headbands and assemble protective face-shields in our Tennessee, Michigan and Mississippi production facilities.
These protective masks will be donated to the true heroes – healthcare workers.
The company's Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant and the Decherd Powertrain Assembly Plant are using 3D printers to make the headbands for the masks.
Nissan expects to make more than 3,000 face shields by April 3. The plants have the capacity to print enough headbands to make at least 1,000 shields per week.
The company said it has deployed enhanced safety and sanitizing measures in the areas where the face shields will be assembled. Nissan suspended all vehicle production in its U.S. manufacturing facilities on March 20 amid the coronavirus outbreak.
