In the early morning hours, a 46 year-old man shot two police officers in Des Moines, Iowa. Described as an "ambush-style" shooting, the suspect was soon identified as Scott Michael Greene, according to Urbandale Police spokesman Sgt. Chad Underwood.
According to reports and authorities, Greene surrendered to a Department of Natural Resources officer.
The shooting began around 1:00 AM CT. In a news conference, it was stated that police were still notifying family members of the slain officers. There names will be revealed at a later date.
Attorney General Loretta Lynch condemned the killings, saying “violence has no place in the United States of America.’’
