Happy Birthday ‘Sesame Street’

Happy 47th Birthday Sesame Street! From helping children learn their ABC’s and 1, 2, 3’s to tackling social and cultural topics, the children’s program that strives to inspire, educate and entertain, turns 47 years old. The show that introduced the world to the iconic Muppets first aired on November 10, 1969 on the NET (National Educational Television) network. Since, the series has surpassed 4,000 episodes, won 8 Grammys and over 100 Emmy Awards, and found a new home on HBO, after spending a majority of its run on PBS.

Over the years, additional Muppet characters have joined Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Bert and Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, Count von Count and Elmo on Sesame Street. The show remains close to its original format with a regular cast and episodic guest stars interacting with the Muppets and, while change is inevitable with age, the show still maintains its goals to educate and entertain children through strong visuals, humor and song.
