With the deaths of Alton Sterling in Louisiana and Philando Castile in Minnesota, protests and rallies filled streets in major cities across the country on Thursday night. Crowds gathered to protest the police shootings.
One demonstration in downtown Dallas turned deadly when snipers opened fire on Dallas Police. According to Chief David O. Brown of the Dallas Police Dept., four officers were killed and seven others were wounded.
One suspect was arrested late Thursday after the shootout, the Police Department said via Twitter. Another man, who has been referred to as a "person of interest" turned himself in.
Chief Brown said the shooting was carried out by two snipers who fired down on the peaceful demonstration.
“Some were shot in the back,” Brown said. “We believe that these suspects were positioning themselves in a way to triangulate on these officers.”
