As stated on the White House website, “The President strongly believes that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms. While no law or set of laws will end gun violence, it is clear that the American people want action. If even one child’s life can be saved, then we need to act.”
Unfortunately, not much has been done on the issue of gun control and everyday we see the abuse of the right to bear arms on the news. On Friday evening, a gunman who was described as being mentally disturbed went on a shooting rampage in Isla Vista, California near the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Six people are dead in what is being called a “premeditated mass murder,” according to Santa Barbara County sheriff’s deputies. The gunman died from a gunshot wound after his car crashed. Seven people were being treated in a hospital for gunshot wounds or traumatic injuries, said sheriff’s office spokeswoman Kelly Hoover.
A video which has now been removed from YouTube titled “Elliot Rodger’s retribution” is believed to be tied to the shooting. Supposedly the video was made by a young man who identified himself on his blog as a student in Santa Barbara. The investigation is still underway.
