This week, Chris Urmson, the Director of the Self-Driving Car Project at Google has made some announcements about the world-changing car. As he posted on his blog: “Just imagine: You can take a trip downtown at lunchtime without a 20-minute buffer to find parking. Seniors can keep their freedom even if they can’t keep their car keys. And drunk and distracted driving? History.”
These cars are designed to operate safely without a human ever taking control of the wheel. According to Urmson, they are planning on building about a hundred prototype vehicles and begin testing early versions of the vehicles that have manual controls.
The cars have sensors that remove blind spots, detect objects and have capped the speed at 25 mph.
