The Los Angeles Lakers have signed guard Manny Harris to a 10-day contract, it was announced today by General Manager Mitch Kupchak.
Harris was most recently a member of the Los Angeles D-Fenders, the Lakers’ NBA Development League affiliate, and was the D-League’s leading scorer at 30.6 points per game while also ranking sixth with 2.1 steals per contest. The 6’5’’ shooting guard claims two of the top five scoring performances in the D-League this season, with 49 points 1/10 at Idaho (also a D-Fenders single-game record) and 42 in his latest game 1/13 vs. Maine. Overall, in 13 games with the D-Fenders (13 starts) this season, Harris averaged 30.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.1 steals while shooting 48.5% from the field. On Monday, Harris was named the NBA D-League Performer of the Week for the second consecutive time, and fourth time in his career.
In 80 career NBA games (20 starts) with the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, the Detroit, Michigan native averaged 6.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 17.4 minutes per game. Harris also spent part of the ’11-’12 campaign as a member of the D-League’s Canton Charge, appearing in 17 games and posting averages of 21.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.6 blocks per game, while shooting 47.0% from the field and 40.9% from beyond-the-arc. He spent the 2012-13 season playing for Azovmash Mariupol of the Ukranian Superleague before taking part in training camp with the Orlando Magic prior to this season.
A three-year starter at the University of Michigan, Harris earned All-Big Ten honors three times, including a selection to the 1st Team in 2009, and was a member of the All-Big Ten Freshman team in 2008. In 98 career games in Ann Arbor, Harris averaged 17.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals and led the Wolverines to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2009.
