Rock The Weekend 2/1/13-2/3/13

FRIDAY 2/1

Tegan & Sara

Where: Club Nokia

Canadians Tegan & Sara exploded onto the indie scene this year with their mix of electro beats and 80’s influences. In 1998 these identical twins won Calgary’s battle of the bands, “Garage Warz,” (in fact they got the highest score in the competition’s history) and this year they landed a coveted spot on the selective Coachella lineup. But you don’t have to wait months to see them in the desert; you can catch them this Friday at Club Nokia in Downtown (bonus: you won’t have to worry about finding somewhere to shower the next day).

SATURDAY 2/2

Augustana

Where: The Troubadour

Saturday night the indie roots rock group Augustana is playing an acoustic set at L.A.’s Troubadour. Though most people have yet to look past their catchy melancholy hit “Boston,” this group is much more than your average one hit wonder. Touring with big name groups such as Maroon 5, The Fray, Goo Goo Dolls, O.A.R., and Dashboard Confessional (and that’s just a small part of the list), Augustana deserves to be a headliner in their own right. Check them out this weekend and see for yourself.

SUNDAY 2/3

Big Break L.A. Music Showcase

Where: The Joint

L.A. is known for attracting musicians of all kinds with the promise of landing a deal and making it big. This Sunday, The Joint is showcasing the bands they consider to be the best in the non-business. You might have to endure a few less than great groups, but you might just catch the next big thing. Come out this Sunday do some scouting (for future iTunes playlists) yourself.

The Fall Of The House Of Usher

Where: The Long Beach Opera

The local music scene in Los Angeles can sometimes be frightening, but the Long Beach Opera is intentionally setting out to scare you on Sunday. This weekend they will be performing the The Fall Of The House of Usher, a terrifying operatic reimagining of a short story by none other than Edgar Allan Poe. Don’t miss your chance to see this psychological thriller set to music.
