Groundhog Day: No Shadow For Punxsy Phil!

OK, it’s a great movie and we love watching Bill Murray re-live the same day over and over again. But, Groundhog Day is also a tradition which dates back to the 1800’s. Every February in Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, about 80 miles northeast of Pittsburgh in the Pennsylvania Wilds, the the groundhog (Mr. Punxsutawney Phil) emerges in the early morning. If he sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of wintry weather. If he does not see his shadow, there will be an early spring. So Phil… to shadow or not to shadow? Not to shadow! The seer of seers predicts an early spring! Great news for the East Coast.

A webcast of the Groundhog Day festivities is available at www.visitPA.com/groundhog.
