Rock The Weekend 1/11/13-1/13/13

FRIDAY 1/11

Sum 41

Where: House of Blues

Teenage angst. We’ve all felt it and now’s your chance to re-experience it with this Canadian punk rock group. Sum 41 is the epitome of what it means to be reckless, rude, and angry at the world for no real reason. They are back on the road and coming to Los Angeles’ House of Blues in WeHo as part of their “Does This Look Infected? 10th Anniversary” Tour. This is a great way to get a little nostalgically irrationally annoyed.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Where: The Glass House (Pomona)

Friday night the group that urged everyone to “dance dance till you’re dead” back in 2008 is headed to The Glass House in nearby Pomona. With their Hot 100 hits like “Maps” and “Gold Lion,” this group expresses just the right amount of feminine dissatisfaction and rock attitude. With a smattering of EPs and albums in their rear view mirror, this concert might be your best chance to catch some of the new music the trio promises they’re working on.

John C. Reilly

Where: Church in Ocean Park

Everyone knows John C. Reilly’s face from blockbuster movies like “Talladega Nights.” What most people don’t know, is that he’s actually a talented singer. This Friday he’ll be performing at the Church in Ocean Park (which converts into a music venue). Don’t expect any silly tunes, however. He takes his craft seriously, playing real country/folk music. Tickets are virtually free at a suggested $5 donation price. This is a good way to see one of America’s favorite funny men getting serious.

SATURDAY 1/12

Keane

Where: Pantages

The English alternative rock band, Keane, made it fairly big in 2004 with their breakout hit, “Somewhere Only We Know.” Now the group that never really left (they’ve released a few albums since then), but never really stuck around either (at least on the charts) is back at it. Saturday night they’ll be performing at the Pantages Theatre. Known for giving impassioned performances, this is something any music lover won’t want to miss.
