Thousands will dance all together at Grand Park this coming Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. to celebrate National Dance Day.Grand Park is the official West Coast flagship site for this free community-wide National Dance Day celebration.Grand Park visitors will dance with Nigel Lythgoe, Adam Shankman and others from “So You Think You Can Dance,” and get a rare opportunity to take dance lessons and dance right in the splash pad of Grand Park’s historic fountain.
National Dance Day has become a growing movement since its 2010 launch by Lythgoe, who created the day to as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and combat obesity. The event received official acknowledgement by Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) in a congressional resolution declaring the last Saturday in July to be the country’s official National Dance Day. Activities and events of all sizes take place across the country on this day. The Kennedy Center is the official east coast location.
