The Film Society of Lincoln Center has announced that its upcoming 51st New York Film Festival will open with Paul Greengrass‘ “Captain Phillips.”
The film stars Tom Hanks as a cargo ship captain who must fight off Somali pirates in order to save his crew.
The script was written by Billy Ray, and adapted from the book “A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea,” by Richard Phillips and Stephan Talty.
The feature will usher in the annual NYFF, which will take place between September 27 – October 13.
