9/11: A Day To Remember Forever

Eleven years already, and yet it’s quite sad to see how indifferent our entire nation has become to such a life-changing tragedy as September 11, 2001. Has it really become such an insignificant date? Is it so long ago that we have forgotten the anguish that we shared as a nation? The fear of being invaded, the destruction and the loss of over 3,000 lives, which devastated hundreds of families. Shouldn’t September 11th be a national holiday? A day to commemorate the innocent lives who paid a price for no reason. After all the money spent on war, shouldn’t some of it have gone to complete the museum at Ground Zero?

We recently heard both candidates pleading for the votes of the people. Although the Democrats criticized the GOP for not speaking of our troops, I heard none of them speak about September 11th and the anniversary which we were just about to remember. Obama and Romney spoke about education, yet we are incapable individually and as a country of teaching history. The difference between Europe and the U.S. is that parents teach their children about the Holocaust and how we should never forget. There is no mistake about it, everyone knows that Hitler was a horrible human being. I’m not so sure that in 50 years from now, our grandchildren will know anything about Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden. They may just become names on Google. Fortunately, I did not have anyone who died in this horrible and senseless act of violence, but I surely will do my part to teach, while remembering that we are never safe from terrorism.
