With Steven Spielberg-like flair, the Los Angeles Lakers have announced Kobe Bryant’s return via Facebook. At the end of a dramatic, two-minute long video, finally the words were revealed: “The Legend Continues… Dec. 8.” Sunday evening (9:30 p.m. ET, NBA TV) at Staples Center, Bryant for the first time this season will don the purple-and-gold — er, make that the Lakers’ Sunday whites — against the Toronto Raptors, a team he once lit up for 81 points. Earlier in the week there was speculation that Bryant, out since April 12, when he tore his left Achilles’ tendon, would begin his 18th season tonight at Sacramento. But that notion was rather quickly dispelled. Bryant continued to work exhaustively through practices this week and received rave reviews from coach Mike D’Antonio following Thursday’s workout. And then it happened. At 4:15 p.m. ET, the Lakers’ official Twitter account let it be known that the team had exclusively announced his return on Facebook. This will be the first test to see if the “mamba” is still able to strike!
