The World’s Largest Game Jam Hits Sunnyvale, CA

Listen up gamers in California… The 2013 Global Game Jam is about to begin. Cogswell College, one of the world’s leading regionally-accredited institutions offering a unique curriculum that fuses digital arts, engineering and entrepreneurship, will be a host site for the GGJ, which will take place January 25-27, 2013 at 1175 Bordeaux Drive, Sunnyvale, CA.

The format of the Global Game Jam (GGJ) will be similar to other game jams around the world. The event will begin with the announcement of the year’s secret theme. Attendees will then be challenged to work together in teams to design and develop games based on that theme over the course of the following 48 hours. The jam is not a competition, and no rewards will be given. Each year, jammers from across the globe work around the clock to meet the intense deadline of the GGJ purely for the experience and the pride of completing the event. The GGJ is the perfect opportunity for aspiring game developers to push their creative and technical skills to the limit, collaborate with fellow talented jammers, and form lifelong friendships.

Since its inception in 2009, the GGJ has grown from 1,600 participants from 23 countries to more than 10,000 participants from 46 countries in 2012.

Last year’s massive event saw the creation of more than 2,000 unique games and set the Guinness World Record for “Largest Game Jam in the World.”
