In the past, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has been under scrutiny in the media for his obesity problem. Christie, who has mentioned a possible run for the 2016 presidential candidacy has now taken his weight problem into his own hands. The governor told The New York Post that he secretly underwent lap-band stomach surgery to lose weight.
“I’ve struggled with this issue for 20 years,” Christie told the newspaper. “For me this is about turning 50 and looking at my children and wanting to be there for them.”
Christie reportedly consulted with the doctor who performed the same surgery in 2010 on New York Jets coach Rex Ryan. The Republican governor will be running for a second term in November.
