There are less than 24 hours remaining for President Obama and Republican leaders to avoid sending the United States off the fiscal cliff. Without an agreement, massive spending cuts and harsh tax increases would automatically be implemented at the start of the new year, which economists have suggested could trigger a new recession.
“There’s still significant distance between the two sides, but negotiations continue,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Sunday. “There’s still time left to reach an agreement, and we intend to continue negotiations.”
