In the early 80’s a woman by the name of Victoria Jackson came on the scene revolutionizing the beauty industry. The brand was Victoria Jackson Cosmetics. Quickly rising to the top, it was selling like hot cakes on QVC. The foundation professed to give a natural look, and who does not want to wear a foundation that is so lightweight that you forget you’re wearing it?
After surviving a very tough time during her teenage years, Victoria would win a scholarship to Beauty School in 1976. She had found a direction and a passion in which she would excel. She soon built a thriving career as a makeup artist and in 1988 she began teaching makeup at UCLA before becoming a university extension instructor, a position she held for 10 years. It was followed by Victoria Jackson Cosmetics, which was conceived in her garage.
1989 marked a turning point in her professional life.
Victoria had created the bestselling Survival Kit, which included everything you may need to do your makeup. Energized to no end, she convinced an infomercial company that she could become the first cosmetic line ever to be sold on television. In the first week she sold $1 million dollars of cosmetics. 13 infomercials followed, along with a 10-year run on QVC; over 600 products that she personally developed, generating a billion dollars in sales.
After losing her first husband in 1986, and having her first child, Victoria married Bill Guthy, of the infomercial giant Guthy-Renker soon adding two more kids to her family.
Becoming an author, she wrote two books; Redefining Beauty and Make Up Your Life. Although it had seemed that life was smiling upon her, Victoria’s entire family received shocking news that her 14-year-old daughter Ali had a rare autoimmune disorder of the central nervous system that, at the time, was said to be fatal. Ali seemed perfectly healthy—an athlete, star student and leader, nevertheless she was given only 4 years to live. At that moment Victoria put her career on hold. Driven by instinct, desperation, and urgency, Bill and Victoria went to work determined to research and find a cure for NMO (Neuromyelitis Optica).
They established the Guthy-Jackson Charitable Foundation to fund life-saving research to cure NMO. A new chapter of her life had just started. She had to teach herself the basics of molecular immunology and step out of her leadership of one of the world’s largest cosmetic companies, into the leader of a medical research foundation.
Ali would become a leader among patient advocates. Helping put a face to NMO and inspire the world in the process, Ali defied every worst-case scenario. 14 years later, Ali graduated from law school doubling that with an MBA degree from one of the best universities, and passed the bar exam on her first try. Her fellow NMO patients are also defying the odds.
But Victoria accomplishments did not stop there. She continued working tirelessly and conquering obstacles in her life. Returning to the beauty industry in 2021 she launched Kind Science, a skincare line founded by Ellen DeGeneres. Finally, in 2024 Victoria Jackson relaunched her global powerhouse brand No Makeup Makeup®, this time with Kim Wileman.
