Screamfest® Horror Film Festival, the largest and longest-running horror film festival in the United States, announced their 2024 award winners.
The festival took place October 8 to 17, 2024 at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Screamfest concluded last night with an awards ceremony honoring legendary cinematographer Dean Cundey, ASC (Halloween, Jurassic Park, Apollo 13) with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The prestigious honor was presented by special guest John Carpenter and accompanied by a double-feature screening of Dean’s iconic works The Thing and Halloween.
Additional awards were handed out last night, including multiple awards for the feature film Else, from Screamfest alum Thibault Emin. The film captivated audiences with its intriguing premise of a mysterious virus that causes the infected to merge with their surroundings.
The film garnered awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Special Effects, Best Musical Score, and Best Actor.
In addition, Witte Wieven (Heresy) from the Netherlands earned Anneke Sluiters the award for Best Actress.
The award for Best Animated Short Film went to Dagon, directed by Paolo Gaudio, and the title of Best Student Short was awarded to Leaving Yellowstone by Kayla Arend.

Formed in August 2001 by film producer Rachel Belofsky, Screamfest Horror Film Festival is a female-run 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that gives filmmakers and screenwriters in the horror and science fiction genres a venue to have their work showcased in the film industry. Among the numerous films that have been discovered and/or premiered at the festival include “Tigers Are Not Afraid.”, “The Wretched”, “We Summons the Darkness”, “Pledge”, “The Master Cleanse’, “Tragedy Girls”, “American Mary”, Paranormal Activity,” “30 Days of Night,” “Trick ‘r Treat” and “The Human Centipede.” Screamfest hosts monthly screenings year-round such films include “Mom and Dad” starring Nicolas Cage and Selma Blair and many retrospective screenings.
