“Chicken Sisters” Stars Lea Thompson and Schuyler Fisk Give Some Family Advice

When it comes down to the heart of “The Chicken Sisters” series on Hallmark+, it digs up that age-old sibling rivalry between the main characters: Amanda and Mae – but also the challenges of family working together.

LATF USA News sat down with Lea Thompson and Schuyler Fisk to talk their latest series. Schuyler worked with her mother, Sissy Spacek on “Sam and Kate” and Lea directed her daughters, Madelyn Deutch and Zoey Deutch in “The Year of the Spectacular Men.”

In this interview clip, Lea and Schuyler discuss their real life experiences of working with family, seeing some reflection in their current roles and advice for those working with family members!

“The Chicken Sisters” is a family drama dipped in southern charm and served up with a saucy side of romance. The setting is the fictional town of Merinac, where a generations-old rift between dueling fried chicken restaurants – Mimi’s and Frannie’s – has left the founders’ families fractured and the locals taking sides. After marrying into the family that runs Frannie’s, Amanda Moore Hillier’s (Schuyler Fisk) relationship with her mom Augusta “Gus” Moore (Wendie Malick), who runs Mimi’s, has been as cold as a frog’s tail. Nancy Hillier (Lea Thompson) is happy to have Amanda by her side along with Nancy’s son Frank Jr. (James Kot), and thinks of her as the daughter she never had.

Amanda learns that the cooking competition show “Ultimate Kitchen Clash” is looking for restaurant rivals to vie for the $100,000 prize and impulsively submits Frannie’s and Mimi’s. When host Sabrina Skye (Rukiya Bernard) calls and gives her the good news that the show is coming to Merinac, Amanda is stunned and panicked – she has no idea how to get her mom on board. Gus ultimately agrees but…only if Mae (Genevieve Angelson), Amanda’s sister who flew the coop years earlier for the bright lights of New York, returns to help. While Mae initially balks at the idea, an unexpected professional pitfall makes her do an abrupt about-face. She shows up in Merinac after having vowed never to return and brings her big city attitude with her, immediately ruffling Amanda’s feathers. With both sisters back in the same town – and childhood baggage bubbling back up – they’re ready to face off.
