After many Democrats and Americans called for President Biden to take his leave from the presidential race, he has announced his departure.
President Biden represented Delaware for 36 years in the U.S. Senate before becoming the 47th Vice President of the United States.
In 2020, President Biden ran for the White House and was sworn in as the 46th President.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” the 81 year-old President wrote in a post on the social media site X.
“And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden wrote.
“I will speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about my decision,” Biden added.
His doctor shared an update on Biden’s current state after testing positive for Covid-19.
