Legendary actor Donald Sutherland has passed away at the age of 88 years-old due to a long illness, according to reports.
The recipient of the 2018 Honorary Academy Award, Sutherland is the father of Emmy-winning actor Kiefer Sutherland (“24,” “Designated Survivor”) and veteran CAA Media Finance exec Roeg Sutherland. CAA confirmed the news of the actor’s death to Deadline.
Kiefer Sutherland said in a statement:
“With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film,” he said.
“Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.”
With over 200 acting credits, Sutherland won a Primetime Emmy for “Citizen X” in 1995. Although best known to Millennials and Gen Z for his portrayal of President Snow in “The Hunger Games” franchise, the Canadian actor starred in “MASH” alongside Elliot Gould and Tom Skerrit before acting with Jane Fonda in “Klute.”
In 2023, Sutherland was seen in “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” and according to his IMDB was in pre-production for “Heart Land.”
Other notable projects throughout his career include: Clint Eastwood’s comedy “Kelly’s Heroes” (1970), “Don’t Look Now” (1973), “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” (1978), Robert Redford’s “Ordinary People” (1980), “A Dry White Season” (1989) and “JFK” (1991).
