Emmy-Winning actress Lynn Whitfield expressed her admiration on stage for Outstanding Achievement in Makeup honoree, Carol Rasheed at the 9th Hollywood Beauty Awards this past Sunday at Avalon Hollywood.
They worked together on “Greenleaf” among other projects.
The HBAs recognize talent in hair, makeup, photography and styling for Film, TV, Music, the red carpet and editorial, as well as special honorees.
Stars who attended and presented at the HBAs included Dave Bautista (“Dune 2”), two-time Academy Award nominee Judd Hirsch, P.J. Byrne (“Wolf of Wall Street,” “Babylon”),“Oppenheimer” star David Krumholtz, actress Jaime King (“Lights Out”), Saniyya Sydney (“King Richard”), Rochelle Aytes (“S.W.A.T.”) and more.
Emmy nominee and veteran Makeup Department Head, Carol Rasheed has been a driving force in the industry for over thirty years.
Her voyage into the world of makeup began with a humble start in Florida, where she worked at the makeup counter for Fashion Fair at Mass Brothers Department Store. She acquired a dual Barbers/Cosmetology License and studied at multiple institutions.
But it was the invaluable mentorship of makeup artist Ellie Winslow and hair designer Linda Tucker that propelled her career forward to The Walt Disney Company. There, Carol honed her skills working on visiting shows like “The View,” as well as films and series, including “Monster,” “Bamboozled,” “Rosewood” and “Gullah Gullah Island.”
In 1991, she joined Nickelodeon Studios as the Makeup and Hair Department Head, before moving on to Oxygen Media where Carol led the newly formed Hair and Makeup Department.
Soon after, she made history becoming the first African American to secure a quarter-million-dollar annual makeup and hair contract working with The Home Shopping Network (HSN). She later collaborated with Marriott Hotels to own and operate a Salon and Spa within the Renaissance Resort at SeaWorld.
Consistently climbing the ladder, Carol landed in Atlanta, working on Tyler Perry Studios’ projects including “House of Payne,” “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” “Meet The Browns,” “Madea’s Family Reunion” and “The Family That Preys.”
Carol also headed the makeup department for “The TLC Story,” “Drumline,” “Fist Fight,” “Barely Lethal,” “All Eyez On Me” and more. Working with Queen Latifah on “Steel Magnolias,” she also designed makeup for Rose Byrne on “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” and Lynn Whitfied in “Greenleaf.”
From “Recitfy” to “Hap And Leonard,” “Delilah” to “The Big Door Prize,” Carol received an Emmy nomination for “The First Lady.”
Working on multiple Oprah Winfrey produced productions, Carol’s latest venture as Makeup Department Head for “The Color Purple” has earned her a Critics Choice nomination.
As the founder of the TV and Film Makeup Academy and creator of the Evolution of Rouge, Carol trains and mentors the next generation of makeup artists, ensuring her enduring legacy continues to inspire and shape the industry’s future.
