The-Dream, the Grammy Award-winning man behind the lyrics to some of the radio’s most ubiquitous hits like Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” and Beyonce’s “Put A Ring On It,” has just been appointed the position of Def Jam Recordings’ Executive Vice President of A&R. In this new role, The-Dream will be acting as an overseer of current projects, a talent scout, and a producer. He is already back in the studio with superstar Rihanna, helping her with her upcoming album. Still, he made assurances that his new job at Def Jam won’t interfere with his label, Radio Killa, which is continuing to sign new acts such as August Alsina.
It seems that it was as much The-Dream’s artistry as his business acumen that made him so attractive to the higher-ups at Universal Music Group (the corporation that owns Def Jam). Barry Weiss, Chairman and CEO of Universal Republic praised the rapper and lyricist saying, “The-Dream is a gifted songwriter and producer who writes from a unique cultural point of view. This rare ability sets him apart from all other writers and producers out there.”
