The beloved television star, Bonnie Franklin has passed away at the age of 69 due to complications from pancreatic cancer. Franklin was best known for her portrayal of Ann Romano on the CBS comedy, “One Day At A Time,” which ran from 1975 to 1984. Playing a divorced mother who moved to Indianapolis with her two teenage daughters (Mackenzie Phillips and Valerie Bertinelli), earned the actress two Golden Globe nominations.
She was a true born California girl from Santa Monica who attended Beverly Hills High School and UCLA. Before starring on TV, Franklin debuted on Broadway in 1970 in the musical, “Applause,” in which she was nominated for a Tony Award. Throughout her career, she always found herself back on the stage, performing in theaters around the country in plays such as “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?,” “Steel Magnolias,” “Annie Get Your Gun” and many more. But out of all of her starring roles, she will always be remembered for her gift to make audiences laugh in “One Day At A Time.” In 2011, the cast accepted the “Innovators Award” from TV Land.
Franklin will be greatly missed.
