According to Mayor Eric Garcetti from the press conference on April 1st, 2020:
CASE DATA:
In Los Angeles County, there were 507 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to 3,518.
This was a 17% increase in one day from March 31st to April 1st.
County cases have doubled since Friday, March 27th.
In the city of Los Angeles, there were 194 new cases, bringing the total to 1,580 – a 14% increase.
11 new deaths were reported; 65 people have died in total in Los Angeles.
We are about fourteen days behind New York.
TESTING:
Last week, LA provided 1,000 tests per day. They reached their goal by getting 2,000 tests per day on April 1st.
By next Wednesday, 30,000 tests will have been completed.
If you are symptomatic, you must notify everyone you came into contact with starting two days prior to feeling the symptoms.
PROTECTIVE MEASURES:
The Mayor asks and recommends to keep the N95 masks strictly for healthcare professionals and first responders.
For the public, wear any face covering if you do step outside or interact with others at grocery story, etc.
Non-essential businesses who continue to operate will be charged with a misdemeanor. Water & Power will be turned off for these businesses should they be reported.
