Celebrity makeup artist and previous Hollywood Beauty Awards makeup nominee, Carola Gonzalez created a stunning makeup look for Emmy presenter, actress Sonequa Martin Green.
"I wanted the focus to be mainly on Sonequa's skin and eyes. I wanted her skin to glow and for her beautiful almond shaped eyes to stand out. I wanted her to look fresh, and sophisticated just like the woman she is," Carola said.
Follow the look step-by-step with Carola:
Skin: To prep the skin I used Glossier Priming Moisturizer Buildable Hydrating Cream. She has oily skin, so this light, hydrating moisturizer worked perfect on her skin. It gave her the proper hydration without making it greasy. I applied it all over her face and neck and let it sit for 5 min until it was fully absorbed. Then I began makeup application.
Concealer: To highlight, conceal, and even out Sonequa's skin I applied Glossier' Stretch concealer in Dark 30. I first applied the Dark concealer under the eye area to conceal dark circles and brighten the area. To highlight and reflect light, I also applied it on the bridge of the nose, center part of the forehead, and middle chin.
Foundation: I used Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick in Golden Honey 5.75 Applied it all over the face and neck with a sponge and used a brush for blending it into the skin.
Blush: Nars Isadora layered with Bobbi Brown Nude Finish Illuminating Powder Rich.
Eyes: I used the Westmore Beauty Hollywood Eyecons Eyeshadow Palette I started by applying, as a base, the Bombshell Shade. With a fluffy eyeshadow brush, I applied it all over the eyelid and on the inner corners of the eye to brighten the area. I then layered the Glamorous shade and applied it on the outer edge of the eye working it towards the middle of the eye and crease. To blend both eyeshadows and merge them together, I used a blending brush with no eyeshadow and went over the eye in circular motions until completely blended. To accentuate the outer edge of the eye, I applied Leading Lady eyeshadow and worked it on the skin with a very small brush to get more pigment from the shadow and intensify the eye. I also applied Leading Lady under the bottom lash line to create a shadow liner effect. I finished the eye by applying Elizabeth Arden's Eye Smokey Eye Pencil in Smoky Black on the under rim area of the eye.To intensify the eye I added a lash strip of Cameo Eylure Mink Effect Lashes and added a few coats of mascara to upper and bottom lashes with Le Volume de Chanel mascara #10.
Lip: I always like to do the lips at the end, it's what adds the final touch and completes the makeup look. I used Westmore Beauty's Lip Glamour in Nude. This shade truly complimented everything. It had a hint of color, but didn't compete with the eyes nor the color of the dress.
Setting: The last step is to set the makeup before walking out the door and into a red carpet. For this I used Glossier's Wowder light/medium shade. Using a powder puff, I padded the powder into the skin to remove the shine.
