The 2016 Billboard Music Awards, hosted by Ludacris and Ciara, were broadcast live on ABC from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 22, 2016. The Weeknd was the biggest winner of the night, taking home eight awards, including Top R&B Song and Top Hot 100 Artist. While Adele wasn't far behind, scooping up five BBMAs, including Top Artist and Top Female Artist. Rihanna took home the fan-voted Billboard Chart Achievement Award, while Celine Dion graciously accepted the annual Icon Award.
The night ended with a grand Prince tribute finale. Madonna in a purple suit on a purple throne singing "Purple Rain" with Stevie Wonder.
