People of all ethnic and religious backgrounds marched today in Paris, France for equality. More than a million people were joined by world leaders from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to French President Francois Hollande, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi. It was a Unity rally, paying tribute to the 17 victims who lost their lives during the three-day manhunt and terrorist attack against the satirical news publication, Charlie Hebdo.
A total of 3.7 million joined rallies across the French nation, according to officials. The crowds marched from Paris’ Place de la Republique to Place de la Nation, chanting “Vive la France” and “Qui vous etes? Charlie!” — “Who are you? Charlie!”
French President Hollande said in a statement, “Today, Paris is the capital of the world. Our entire country will rise up toward something better.”
