No, this doesn’t have anything to do with Katy Perry and her Killer Queen fragrance; but it certainly has something to do with music! The ultimate accompaniment to any band’s rider, and drink of choice for the legendary late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury – Queen have unveiled a premium Freddie Mercury celebratory vodka, ‘Killer Queen’.
Released on the 40th anniversary of the multiplatinum single – and undeniable masterpiece – of the same name, Killer Queen – which featured on 1974 album Shear Heart Attack – has been established by the band to honour Mercury’s invaluable contribution to music, which still continues to inspire to this day.
RnR Brew has partnered with Bravado and the ‘Original’ Stoli spirits producer SPI / Latvijas Balzams in the EU, to produce Freddie Mercury’s favourite tipple a “Legendary vodka” with Killer Queen vodka.
Killer Queen vodka is produced in batches from the highest quality GMO free unadulterated EU wheat. The vodka is “well versed in etiquette”, seven times distilled using an ancient original vodka filtration process of quartz sand and birch charcoal with a unique filtration process at the final stage. The water in Killer Queen vodka has been taken from a 600ft historical artisan well at source, which gives Killer Queen vodka its exquisite smooth original taste and is “guaranteed to blow your mind, anytime.”
On a recent visit to the Stoli vodka production plant in Riga, Latvia, Brian May described the factory as ‘the Willy Wonka chocolate factory for adults. Reminiscing fond times with Mercury during his time in Queen upon the launch of Killer Queen vodka, guitarist Brian May says, “Freddie loved vodka and used to carry a dry ice cooler full of vodka with him on tour. Killer Queen Vodka is the perfect tribute to Freddie and using Killer Queen as the brand name was the perfect choice for us, and we know Freddie would have approved.”
Queen have now sold over 300 million albums worldwide, they are a band that continue to proudly hold their place within the Top 10 bestselling recorded acts of all time. Their frontman Freddie Mercury once proclaimed, “‘I am not going to be a star. I am going to be a legend” and he has stayed true to his word.
Mercury’s iconic status now lives on through Killer Queen vodka, and this launch comes at a time when Queen reflect on and celebrate one of the band’s – and Mercury’s – greatest live performance moments with the multi format release on September 8 of Queen Live At the Rainbow ’74 a rare recording made at legendary London venue The Rainbow in 1974 which has been held in the archive for 40 years and is now being heard live for the first time. Among the unique material contained in this DVD and CD release are over a dozen tracks never previously released on any official Queen live album, lovingly restored, edited, mixed and digitally mastered.
These recordings capture Queen at that time in all their glory: the dramatic stage presence, the highly original self-penned repertoire of songs, high-energy performances coupled with stunning melodic and harmonic content, and the uncompromising perfectionist approach to every aspect of their performance which is still maintained to this day. An approach which is carried through in the flawless quality of Killer Queen vodka.
Killer Queen vodka is 40% ABV (80 proof) and available in measurements of 700ml and 750ml. It will launch in UK on September 17th and will retail at approx. £25 (incl. VAT), with International markets following later in 2014.
