Harold Ramis was best known for portraying Egon Spengler in the 1984 film “Ghostbusters.” Today his fans and the industry say goodbye to the talented comedic actor and writer. Ramis died from complications of autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, a rare disease that involves swelling of the blood vessels. He was 69 years-old.
Ramis had a long list of successful filmsfrom “Caddyshack” to “Groundhog Day,” “Analyze This;” and was one of three screenwriters for the film “National Lampoon’s Animal House.“
A Chicago native, Ramis was an alumni of Second City. He was eventually replaced in the main cast by John Belushi. In 1974, Belushi brought Ramis and other Second City performers, including Ramis’s frequent future collaborator, Bill Murray, to New York City to work together on the radio program The National Lampoon Radio Hour.
Ramis is survived by three children.
