In January of last year, Sears, which owns K-Mart, announced the closing of 269 stores across the country.
If this isn't a sign of our economic times and the power of online shopping sites such as Amazon, I don't know what is. Sears will now close 72 more stores, in addition to the more than 180 closings that had already been announced this year.
The closings include 16 Sears stores, 49 Kmart stores, and seven auto centers. More locations are expected to close in September.
Sears had a total of 2,073 locations five years ago. With the latest announcement, that brings the corporation down to 1,200.
