What Will Happen to Zsa Zsa Gabor’s Bel Air Mansion?

Developers are mulling over what to do with the mansion of Zsa Zsa Gabor. Under a 2014 deal with broker Roger Perry and an unnamed buyer, Gabor and her ninth husband, Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt, were permitted to stay in the home until her passing. After her death on December 18 at age 99, von Anhalt has 90 days to leave the premises, as part of the agreement. Now the question remains: will the house be re-sold on the market, or will it be torn down and re-developed?

Gabor purchased the 8,878-square-foot estate in 1973 for $250,000. Built by John Zurlo, it is a six bedroom, seven bathroom home with stunning poolside views and an-all star story. Zurlo rented the hose during the 60s to Howard Hughes, and Elvis Presley was a past owner, according to Gabor, as well. House guests include John Kennedy, Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Ronald Reagan, Henry Kissinger, and both George H. and George W. Bush. The home has its own film history, having been a location for a number movies including Argo and Behind the Candelabra. Despite its prestige, Gabor encountered difficulties selling the house.

The saga began in June 2011 when it hit a bad real estate market at $28 million. Attracting zero bids, her real estate agent convinced her to lower the price $12.9 million, before it was raised by Gabor to $14.9 million. Still, it drew no interest. Eventually, Perry facilitated its sale a couple of years later.
