Univision Communications has canceled their future broadcast of the Miss USA Pageant and ceased their relationship with the Miss Universe Organization, which is part-owned by Donald Trump. Why? In Trump’s mid-month speech, which announced his intentions to run for president in the 2016 race, he said: “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.”

The business mogul’s statements have caused quite the controversy. Univision explained that they were ending their business relationship with the Miss Universe Organization “based on his [Trump] recent, insulting remarks about Mexican immigrants.”

Univision added, “We see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country. We will not be airing the Miss USA pageant on July 12th or working on any other projects tied to the Trump Organization.”

Trump responded immediately on Twitter saying, “Mexican gov doesn’t want me talking about terrible border situation & horrible trade deals. Forcing Univision to get me to stop- no way!”

On Thursday, Trump told Fox News’s The Real Story, “The Mexican government and others are putting tremendous pressure on Univision to break their signed and fully effective contract with the Miss Universe Organization because Mr. Trump has been exposing to the public, and the world, the significant damage that is being done at the southern border, and the terrible and costly trade deals that the United States is incompetently making with Mexico.”

The GOP candidate has promised a “major lawsuit,” accusing Univision of “defamation” and insisiting that “they owe us a lot of money. They have a contract that is ironclad, no termination rights.”
