The NFL Hits M.I.A. With $1.5 Million Lawsuit, Singer Barks Back

Just coming off of M.I.A.’s announcement that she will perform in New York and Los Angeles in support of her forthcoming album Matangi… the singer has been hit with one big lawsuit. $1.5 million by the NFL for flipping the bird on national television during the 2012 Superbowl.

According to the Daily News, M.I.A is taking a stand against the lawsuit. They said the English-Sri Lankan musician responded to what she considers a bogus legal imposition by the organization, in a video clip posted to YouTube on Monday.

“The NFL thing is completely ridiculous,” the “Paper Planes” rapper said, speaking to an interviewer by phone.

On a more positive note, her New York show at Terminal 5 is set for November 4th with an additional date to be announced soon. Two Los Angeles performances will take place November 11th and 12th at the Belasco Theater. See below for all tour dates including a headline performance at the Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, TX on November 9th

“Matangi is the answer to why Arular and Kala existed and Maya was resisted,” says M.I.A.  “It’s been a long journey to Nirvana…I am peaced, not pissed.”

Tickets for the New York and Los Angeles shows go on sale Thursday, September 26th.  Fans who purchase tickets will have the option to pre-order Matangi which will be released November 5th on Interscope Records.
