James Franco Unlikely Winner At LA Film Critics Awards

James Franco

The Los Angeles Film Critics announced their 2013 award winners yesterday. In a night filled with Oscar boosts for films like “Gravity” and “Her,” the real winner of the evening was none other than James Franco. The thesp won an unlikely Best Supporting Actor trophy for his turn as the Florida gangster rapper Alien in Harmony Korine’s “Spring Breakers.” While sharing the honor with “Dallas Buyer’s Club” co-star Jared Leto, this victory no doubt puts Franco in a position to gain an Oscar nomination—something he hasn’t done since 2011’s “127 Hours.” A24, the distributor of the film, started a grassroots ‘For Your Consideration’ campaign for the role back in October, but expect bigger and better coverage for Franco in the near future.
