Cory & Topanga Are BACK!

bmw

As a child of the 90’s I spent countless hours after school eating Jell-O pudding and growing up alongside Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) and Topanga Laurence (Danielle Fishel) as they loved and fought and learned from the prodigious Mr. Feeny. During the seven years that Boy Meets World aired, it took the characters from young middle school kids navigating first love and homework, all the way to married college students. Since the show ended in 2000, I still occasionally tune in to watch reruns of this classic coming-of-age television series and reminisce.

Fans who ever wondered whether or not those two crazy kids really ended up happily ever after, have to wonder no more. It was officially announced today that the Disney Chanel has green-lighted the spin off show “Girl Meets World,” and this isn’t some makeshift sequel without any of the past stars like the new “90210.”  Both Savage and Fishel have confirmed that they will be starring in the new series… as parents. This reimagining of the popular series will tackle the same young adult issues that its predecessor did, while focusing on Riley, the 13-year-old daughter of Cory and Topanga.

Though Fishel is already trying to keep expectations in check by posting on her personal website, “Please keep in mind that this will be episode 1, of season 1, of a brand new show. We started at the same place with Boy Meets World but we evolved and we evolved quickly. For those of you who knew and loved Boy Meets World, please allow this show to evolve as well. Stick with us. Give us a chance.”

I for one can’t wait to see what this new show looks like. I’ll be tuning in and hoping for a cameo from Shawn Hunter, Mr. Feeny, and maybe even the ski lodge temptress, Lauren…
